ELCA
St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Stewart is a member of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America.
The
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America resulted from the union of three
North American Lutheran church bodies: The American Lutheran Church, The
Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches, and the Lutheran Church in
America. The three churches agreed to unite in 1982. They
formed a 70 member Commission for a New Lutheran Church, which planned
the merger. The plan was approved by church conventions in 1986,
and the ELCA constituting convention was help April 30 to May 3, 1987,
with the church actually beginning operations on January 1, 1988.
The ELCA meets in assembly every two years; at its 2001 Churchwide
Assembly it elected its third bishop, The Rev. Mark S. Hanson, who will
be eligible for re-election at the 2007 Churchwide Assembly. If
you would like more information on the ELCA, just click on Luthers Seal

Our Synod -- SW MN Synod
St. Paul's Lutheran of Stewart is located in Southwest Minnesota
Synod. Here is our synods mission:
God places us in cities, farms and towns together under one
prairie sky. The Risen Christ surprises us with opportunities to
plant God's Word in the world. Walking together in confidence, we
cultivate life giving congregations, nurture partner ministries, and
cooperate in the life of the ELCA. By God's grace, together we
have what we need.
Out synods mission fits well with our church as we are located in a
small farming community in South Central Minnesota. If you would
like to find out more information you can click on the picture of our
synod office, it will take you to the SW MN Synod Website.
