WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) The mission of St. Paul's WELCA is to mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ. Women of St. Paul's Mission Quilters The Mission Quilters are comprised of women of the church who come together every month to sew and create beautiful quilts. The quilts serve many purposes. Some are given as gifts to our veterans and graduating high school students. Some quilts are given to Common Cup Ministry and Lutheran World Relief for mission projects. There are also times in which the quilts are auctioned off during special events for fundraising purposes. Sunday School Work with our youth and share your teaching talents by becoming a Sunday School teacher or substitute teacher. The Sunday School also hosts food packaging events and other activities during the year and needs adult volunteers to assist. Helpful Links ELCA St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Stewart is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America resulted from the union of three North American Lutheran church bodies: The American Lutheran Church, The Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches, and the Lutheran Church in America. The three churches agreed to unite in 1982. They formed a 70 member Commission for a New Lutheran Church, which planned the merger. The plan was approved by church conventions in 1986, and the ELCA constituting convention was help April 30 to May 3, 1987, with the church actually beginning operations on January 1, 1988. Our Synod -- SW MN Synod St. Paul's Lutheran of Stewart is located in the Southwest Minnesota Synod. Below is our synod's mission: God places us in cities, farms and towns together under one prairie sky. The Risen Christ surprises us with opportunities to plant God's Word in the world. Walking together in confidence, we cultivate life giving congregations, nurture partner ministries, and cooperate in the life of the ELCA. By God's grace, together we have what we need. Our synod's mission fits well with our church, as we are located in a small farming community in south central Minnesota. |
